They looked at each other in silence combines elements of sound art, sculpture and performance. The work consists of two ultrasonic transmitter modules and one receiver. The transmitter devices emit frequencies in the ultrasonic range imperceptible to the human ear. These frequencies are then detected by an ultrasonic microphone and modulated against an internal frequency within the receiver module to convert them into the audible spectrum. The system is highly sensitive to external influences like movement of the body, even small hand gestures can have an impact on tonal qualities. By (re-)placing the modules in a defined space and positioning them in relation to the ultrasonic microphone, a performer can slowly build a spatial and auditive composition. Process documentation
